It is worth combining a stay in the Guassa Community Conservation Area with a visit to the adjacent Firkuta Kidane Mihret Monastery. From Guassa Community Lodge, the trail takes you through the breathtaking mountain landscape and reaches Firkuta in about two hours.

According to the monastery’s history, it was established in the 16th century. Here, one can find ancient manuscripts, icons and a gold and bronze cross.

Firkuta Kidane Mihret Monastery is one of the major pilgrimage sites for the Ethiopian Orthodox church and its annual celebration is held on January 26th. It is also the center of church education.
